I walked around the grounds of the XXX Olympiade in London’s east end, as close to the security fence as allowable, gathering rubbish and litter and disposing them in dust and rubbish bins along the way. As a sign of my activity and to mark the site (the route) I deposited 24 hollow amphorae cast in beeswax. The amphorae were left for anyone to see, pick up, take home or ignore. I started and ended the walk on the concourse outside the Stratford Tube Station. I began at 9:30 am and ended where I started at 7:00 pm.
Embossed on the beeswax amphorae is my web site www.dougscholes.ca. I have had one person contact me as a result of finding an amphora and seeing the address.
At the beginning of the walk in the Westfield Mall, I asked people from the General Public to take pictures using my camera. With only a few exceptions, all complied willingly, at times directing me.
All photos were taken on an iPhone 4s because of its portability and disposability. Like so much of the rubbish I collected, the iPhone is ultimately disposable as it is not designed to be modified or repaired, rather put aside in favour of a newer version.
